20 days still going strong and a 40+ year legacy
well just another day out in Tn, waiting for time to pass so i can get back on the go. its a little foggy outside the windshield. as im watching the truckers pull into thhis mom and pop truck stop. its a small place queit without that mainstream hustle and bustle of all those big chain outfits. this truck stop was built around 75-76 and has been family run ever since.. if i have my window down all you hear is the jakes coming down off the hill reminds me of donners pass out west you can smell the brakes of drivers pushin her hard down the hill. its been 20 days since i seen home but sometimes this is home . this ol truck she gets crusin when she tops the hill on her way down usally. but ya still gotta grab those gears on the climb. drivers glance over and say oh a company truck thats got all those flashy lights .. i say yes sir. a big flashy company truck.and i pause for a moment laughing to myself. a big ol company truck thats putting all urs to shame…. haha its funny how the hours seem to blend into another the days seem to crash together and the time spent behind the windshield seems so fast.. out here it seems the drivers brotherhood and sisterhood is falling. no longer can you give out a big hello or goodmorning without getting a negitive response back. but then gain thismoring eating breakfast at the mounteagle truckstop and ol timer been driving out here since febuary of 1967. looked at me and said and i quote him “ya know i been down many miles and seen many younger drivers like yourself coming blowing down around here.. but ya know i gotta take back things i used to say bout ya’ll.. maybe your just the exception. you roll on the highway like you love it.i was riding behind ya last night when we pulled in here. you seem to care about what ya do and how you do it. he shook my hand and said as he put his hat back on. “son im proud to share this road with you” he tipped the waitress and out the door he went. the waitress looked at me and said “man i hope you feel good cause he never never never ever talks about young drivers like the way he just did .. you must really be as honest and as good of a driver that he says you are… cause that ol man right there all he ever said about the new drivers out there is they are worthless and rotting away this industry. i looked at here and said well mam he’s right most of us are. but like me and my grandpa before who drove out here since 1934 to the late 80’s .old truckers never die. she looks up and i turn around and that ol trucker had a tear in his eye. he walked over and said ya know son your right. and neither do the great ones. the whole resturant went silent .. he then said come on i gotta show ya my pete we laughed a bit then parked sitting next to mine as it said on the grill..my phantom 359
